A Magnetic Flaw Detector (MFD), also known as a Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) device, is a non-destructive testing (NDT) tool used to detect surface and near-surface defects in ferromagnetic materials, such as iron, steel, and other magnetic alloys. The technique works by magnetizing the material and then applying magnetic particles (either in dry or wet form) to the surface.
